Join our small group workshop on Saturday 27th April, 10am-12.30pm at Communigrow in East Malling. This session is the perfect start for beginners who want to start growing their own chemical free food this season.
This course is for adults. Children aged 14 and older can book a place if accompanied by a participating adult.
Programme of learning:
  • Introduction and tour of Communigrow
  • Theory Behind ‘no dig’
  • Practical session – constructing and setting out a raised bed
  • Theory of seed sowing – different sowing methods including soil blocking, agriland and traditional
  • Problems – pests and diseases
  • Plan your own vegetable bed with tutor support
 
Course Tutor
Gavin Hughes is the Community Gardener at Communigrow. Gavin is responsible for all horticultural aspects on our 2.4 acre site. This includes growing all of our vegetables, teaching skills and theory to our volunteers and beneficiaries and planning for the development of the site.
Gavin has a RHS Diploma in Horticulture as well as a teaching qualification, and he has also taught the RHS qualification to mature students.
In 2018 Gavin was privileged to work at RHS Chelsea on the Spirit of Cornwall Garden.
