Testing the forum
Hi Joshua, let’s have a chat on here and see how it works
OK, that's a fine start. I guess it doesn't let you post as a guest? I'm mixed on that, part of me doesn't mind it taking a few steps to post here (it certainly makes moderating easier if everyone has to have an account). On the other hand, we've got a large group of mixed interest individuals who occasionally don't have great digital skills. They already need a password to get here, I don't want to make it so challenging that no one ever bothers to come here. What do you think?
No, I couldn’t post as a guest. That may be tricky for some people but I think people that get as far as looking at the forum will probe fine with registering if they want to comment. You can still read the posts without registering and for some people that may be fine.
I have just subscribed to this topic so I assume that means I’ll get an email when you post something.
@twelve42 OK, let me know if you got a notification to say that I've replied? Also please enjoy this picture of an electric chainsaw.
HAH OK there's a snag already, if people post pictures I want there to be a preview of some sort before you click the link. I SAID it was an electric chainsaw (and it was) but I could have said that and then uploaded anything, can't tell from the filename alone.
So, I got notified by email that you had replied so that’s good.
It’s a shame I can’t just see the picture - I have to click on the link to view it and then go back to return to the forum thread. Not the end of the world but just would be nicer to see pictures I think.
Question - have you had to moderate any of my posts?
I have not, which doesn't bode well. Sorry for dropping the ball on this a bit, I got caught up in about a million other workstreams. I will look into moderation now - I definitely don't like the idea of unmoderated immediate posting but perhaps I'm being a bit oversensitive?
Hi Joshua,
No worries about dropping the ball as you put it, I’m sure you’ve had a hundred and one things to do.
Re moderation, I guess it would be good for posts to be moderated before they are made live but that’s very dependent on a couple of things - firstly how many moderators will we have and how quickly therefore can posts be moderated and secondly, how much of a risk do we think it is for posts to go live without being moderated.
I’m minded to say let’s go with without pre-post moderation. I think most people are sensible and as long as we can take posts down if we decide they are not appropriate then I think the risk is limited.
As part of signing up, we can have a code of conduct that will include ‘appropriateness’ of posts and maybe have a two strikes and you’re out policy
Happy to discuss
@twelve42 Good idea on the code of conduct - on it. For now, I can make the spam filter for new members much more aggressive. With the current settings, you're under harsh anti-spam functions - so all your posts will need moderation - until you've had three approved, then it goes back to the regular settings.
