Have a great time outdoors at our sustainable food education charity and community garden. Enjoy a screen-free Saturday morning in our family workshops for children aged 4-16 with parents/carers (younger siblings welcome but remain the full responsibility of accompanying adult).

Take part in activities such as:

Digging, planting, harvesting, composting, bug hunting, making habitats for animals. Learn new skills and find out about the fantastic fresh food we grow at our sustainable food education charity and community garden in East Malling.

Now it’s getting colder we will light the log burner and enjoy hot chocolate, tea or coffee in our toasty yurt!

Our hands on sessions at our sustainable food education charity in East Malling, Kent, give you the opportunity to grow, harvest and cook seasonal vegetables, support wildlife and care for our planet, with tutors who have achieved Carbon Literacy certification.

What you will do:

Help prepare the Communigrow garden for winter. Learn about the importance of hedges as an ecosystem and how to support wildlife this winter with a focus on nocturnal animals. Cook up a storm using our sustainably grown veg and celebrate winter making seasonal decorations and toasting marshmallows around the fire pit. Develop skills and gain an award – learners completing the course gain a Communigrow Eco Award certificate and will also work towards the Communigrow Horticultural Skills Awards in areas such as seed planting, tool use and propagation.

This ticket is for a block booking of 7 sessions this term starting on Tuesday 28th October and continuing to 9th December.

Designed to inspire young people to get outside and active with focused activities to engage and inspire them to learn more about the natural world.

The Field School at Communigrow is a relaxed outdoor setting where young people can be themselves.

Experienced tutors and absorbing activities mean that everyone, including those with anxiety or sensory needs, feels comfortable.

Whilst acquiring valuable practical skills, learners grow in confidence and experience the mental health benefits that come with spending time in nature.

9/9 Scent-sational Herbs – Discover the different herbs we grow at Communigrow and their uses. Make herbal treats to take home.

16/9 Practical – Help us get the garden and polytunnel ready for autumn and plant some of our winter crops.

23/9 Vegetable Families – Know your onions! Learn about the different vegetables we grow and which families they belong to.

30/9 Practical – As the temperature drops it’s still a busy time in the garden with lots of jobs to help out with.

7/10 Seed Dispersal – Super seeds! Hands on experiments to find out how seeds are dispersed.

14/10 Cook up a Feast! – Harvest and cook our fresh veg to make a tasty dish to share.
